Josh S. Weston, who has been devoted to equitable access to health through his hands-on philanthropy in the Montclair community and beyond, was honored at the Partners for Health Golf Outing Tribute Dinner on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

Doug Bauer, Partners for Health Board Chair, noted the funds raised will support the health needs of populations who are vulnerable to health inequities, an issue that has been especially pronounced during the pandemic. One of the biggest inequities has been access to food. In fact, according to Feeding America, the number of New Jerseyans struggling with hunger rose by 56% as a direct result of COVID, which is 10 percentage points higher than the national average. As a result of the dramatic increase in food prices caused by inflation, those statistics have not gone down. According to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey there are 650,000 residents of the Garden State – 175,000 of which are children – who will be hungry tonight.

He added, “This event raised more than $120,000 to fight hunger and homelessness. The total net proceeds raised from this tournament since 2012 to address local hunger is now more than $760,000!”

Dr. Jonathan Koppell, President of Montclair State University, introduced Josh Weston as the honoree. Dr. Koppell acknowledged Josh’s lifetime of contributions to our community, and said, “Josh is a revered catalyst who has impacted the lives of countless individuals, families, and institutions.”

Pam Scott, Executive Director of the Foundation, announced plans to remember Judy Weston, Josh’s beloved wife and partner in his generosity who passed away nearly two years ago. In August 2021, the Township of Montclair resolved to establish the Judy Weston Garden at Watchung Park in Judy’s memory. The garden will serve as a tribute to Judy’s grace and modesty, and a symbol of her continued presence in the Montclair community. The garden is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2023. As part of Partners for Health’s recognition of Josh Weston, and in tribute Judy and Josh’s contributions to our community, the Foundation has awarded a grant to fund the large bench in this garden.
